Last week I was driving along the Grand River admiring a stretch of beautifully-maintained properties. My first thought was “pride of ownership”. As a personal trainer helping people attain their goals, I considered the benefits of personal pride of ownership. The concept should be an easy sell. We only have one body. You would think that taking care of our real 'houses' would take priority over the material ones. We often feel guilty about investing in our own wellbeing. I see it all the time. We don't blink at buying accessories for our homes or cars but question spending the same amount of money on vitamins or personal training sessions. Time and time again we'll choose the new TV over the gym membership. We have been raised to think that it's selfish to devote time to looking and feeling our best.
Consider this - by investing in yourself, you are investing in your family, your work, your life. When you look and feel better physically, you have renewed energy to inject into all that life has to offer, and live longer and better so others can continue to benefit from your involvement in their lives.
It's one thing to know that personal pride of ownership should take top priority, it's another to make it happen. There is so much contradictory information out there on fitness and nutrition. I hope to make personal pride of ownership possible for you by offering simple solutions to everyday dietary dilemmas and fitness frustrations. I look forward to guiding you on a journey to taking pride in your most valuable piece of property – you.
